CS373 Spring 2022: Abhinav Mugunda
What did you do this past week?
I spent this last week completely relaxing and catching up on life. Though I might have self indulged a little too much, it was nice to enjoy a little bit before I got started on the next phase of our project.
What’s in your way?
As of right now nothing much, but the upcoming phase is really daunting, and I’m definitely going to have to spend a lot of time this upcoming week on it.
What will you do next week?
Next week, I’m back to work. We have a lot of milestones to hit for phase 3, and they are not gonna do themselves. I also have exams in other classes that I need to study up for.
What did you think of Paper 10. Why getter and setter methods are evil?
For something that denounces a principle I have learned in my first class of university computer science, I really do appreciate the article. I feel like it does a nice job explaining how getters and setters undermine the Object-Oriented Principles that we have learned over the last few papers. It blows my mind that something I used to take for granted as a part of OOP actually violates so many of it’s most basic principles.
What was your experience of functions, regular expressions. and relational algebra? (this question will vary, week to week)
I have had an overall positive experience with these concepts. I feel like at this point I know more about functions then I will ever need to know, and since I have a little bit of database and SQL experience already, the relational algebra came pretty naturally to me. It was cool to see yet another use for python.
What made you happy this week?
My mom finally got back from her India trip, and I got to spend a lot of time with her. I also got to get outdoors a lot and spend a lot of time in the sun. It did wonders for my mood, I definitely need to get out more often.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
You would be surprised how much a little bit of sunlight can brighten up your day. I know people in computer science don’t get out a lot, but I highly recommend it. I didn’t realize how big of a difference it made until just this week.
